Drug
Manufacturer Warner-Lambert agreed to voluntarily withdraw Rezulin
(troglitazone) in response to a request by the U.S. FDA after
it was linked to over 50 deaths from liver poisoning. Rezulin
has been used by over one half a million Americans to treat type
2 diabetes. Warner-Lambert has been accused of failing to provide
adequate warning about the risks associated with the drug. Doctors
have been faulted for prescribing the drug without monitoring
their patient's liver functions. All patients who took Rezulin
should have their livers tested. Signs of liver dysfunction can
include dark urine, jaundice, nausea, fatigue, yellowing of the
whites of the eyes, easy bruising, excessive fatigue, elevated
protime level, low albumin, elevated transaminase, elevated bilirubin,
and or vomiting.
