Cervical
cancer begins as a condition called dysplasia. At this stage it
is curable. If it is left untreated it can become cancer -- called
"carcinoma in situ" (CIS). Not having regular Pap smears
is the single largest reason for a poor outcome in women who develop
cervical cancer. Diagnostic tests of the bladder (cystoscopy), and
colon (colonoscopy) -- can be used to determine if the cancer has
spread.
